CZAR - Fully self fertile, Aug. (C) (S) (V2) AUG, PIXY, ST JULIAN 'A'

Raised by Thomas Rivers in 1874, is still the best early plum for culinary use, ready early August. It is a prolific and reliable bearer of juicy blue-black plums with yellow-green flesh. It forms a fairly compact, upright tree, hardy and usually frost-resistant, 'Czar' succeeds in shade.

VICTORIA - Fully self fertile, Aug. - Sept. (B) (S) (V2) SEPT, PIXY, ST JULIAN 'A'

The best known plum of all, found as a seedling in a garden at Alderton, Sussex around 1840. Grown commercially and in gardens, pale red oval fruits with a greeny-yellow flesh of good flavour and dual purpose. It can be a heavy cropper on a reasonably frost-free site.

MERRYWEATHER - Self fertile damson, large blue-black fruit, spreading tree. (D) (S) (V3) SEPT, PIXY, ST JULIAN 'A'
