Payment Gateway Integration for E-Commerce

Effective payment gateway integration is essential for all online retailers, and is a key part of a successful e-commerce site where ease of use, security and customer reassurance are all paramount.

For the retailer, it has significance in a number of areas: for PCI DSS compliance and security, as you don’t need to worry about storing actual credit card numbers; for reduction of fraud, as you receive orders in the knowledge that the credit card payment has cleared. On your customer’s side, a customer can have confidence that their card details are handle securely by a well-known and trusted brand, particularly when using major payment gateways such as Worldpay, Opayo (formerly SagePay), Stripe or Paypal, or digital wallets such as Google Pay or Apple Pay.

Alternatively, your customers may be known to you, and you can allow them to checkout “on account” for example. This allows you to take the order through the web, and settle the payment by other means offline. This method is especially suited to B2B or procurement web sites where your site is selling to other trade businesses, or to allow students to procure uniforms for a course.

Web Age are approved ecommerce partners of Opayo (formerly known as SagePay). We recommend Opayo to our customers for a number of reasons; from the familiarity and reassurance of the Opayo brand, the low costs of integration as the gateway is recognised and supported by most major ecommerce plaftorms, to the low monthly fees and ready access to customer support. Opayo allows you to accept MOTO, in person and online payments for a wide variety of credit and debit cards, and PayPal too. You can even invoice directly from your Sage accounts software for payment via your Opayo account.
